Counselling, Psychotherapy and Hypnosis

Counselling and psychotherapy support your emotional wellbeing by providing an encouraging and non judgmental environment to address important issues that are impacting on your life.

What issues can Counselling help me with?

There are a many issues that you can successfully work with in counselling. Common areas that can be addressed are:

  • Anxiety and depression
  • Grief, loss and bereavement
  • Self esteem
  • Life direction and motivation
  • Stress management
  • Health related issues
  • Recovering form relationship break up
  • Past abuse and trauma issues
  • Achieving work/life balance
The terms counselling and psychotherapy are commonly used interchangeably. Hypnosis is a type of psychotherapy.
There are differences which are outlined below.

How long does it take?

This will depend on how difficult and entrenched the difficulties are. It is common to expect between five to ten sessions. Longer term counselling is also available.

Initially the counselling would be weekly and this can then extend to fortnightly or monthly. “Check up” sessions are also highly beneficial to provide a strong base for sustaining positive behaviours, new ways of thinking and feeling.

Fees

Counsellor $120
Counselling Psychologist   $120-140 (Medicare rebate applicable)*

Session fees can vary depending on whether you work with a counsellor or counselling psychologist. Sessions are booked for an hour and will be for 55 minutes.

* Medicare Rebate:
You must be referred by your GP, your psychiatrist or paediatrician. Your GP will need to complete a detailed mental health assessment and prepare a Mental Health Care Plan before referring you to a psychologist.

What is Counselling?

Counselling offers an opportunity to share your thoughts and feelings with another in a safe and non judgemental space. Counselling is a humanistic approach that sees each person as the expert in their own life, possessing all the resources required to achieve goals.

What is Psychotherapy?

Psychotherapy builds on the counselling approach and includes a wide variety of theories to assist people to manage, understand and resolve problems. This can provide a more structured approach than counselling.

What is Hypnosis?

Hypnosis is a focussed trance like state during which clients are able to increase the ability to accept positive change and to better understand motivations, past events and experiences associated with their concern. Hypnosis has been used to help people overcome many problems such as phobias, smoking, weight control, confidence, self esteem and assertiveness, motivation and performance anxiety.
